Bricks Without Straw

Ex 5:10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. 11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished. 12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw. 13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.2  14 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

“Pack your schedule,” the evil taskmaster demands, “fill every moment giving Bible studies, helping a poor church member scrub her bathroom for her apartment inspection, study for your finals, write a research paper, make lesson plans, lighten your mother’s load--she's coordinating a wedding and she's got soooo much to do, make a nice dessert for the guys who fixed your tire, hand-make graduation cards for every graduate you know, make time for your friends before they leave for the summer, get your correspondence course done, stay up late because you’ll never finish everything otherwise, but don’t rush yourself getting out of bed in the morning because goodness knows you need sleep to be able to stay together, and even if nothing else gets done I know you’ll make time for the internet…
“Oh, but STILL live a holy life. You have an influence you know… They better be able to see Jesus in EVERYTHING you do.
“Come on, work harder, faster, nicer, sweeter. Why aren’t you keeping up??”

Forgive me, Lord…. I need straw to make bricks. Thank you for your ready supply every morning.
